The seven astronauts who will fly atlantis on a repair and refurbishment mission for the Hubble telescope were just sealed inside the space shuttle. With weather at 90 percent optimal, NASA officials foresee the scheduled 2:01 EST launch as likely right now.
The next crucial juncture is 12:51 p.m., when the countdown enters a 10-minute hold at the t-minus 20-minute mark so NASA can conduct a series of preflight checks.
The astronauts, clad in orange flight suits and with security details thundering in helicopters overhead, disembarked from the Operations and Checkout Building at Kennedy Space Center at 10:16 a.m. to begin their scheduled 11-day, five-spacewalk mission.
